Dodgen MS Coach Workshop
The Middle School Science Olympiad Student-Coach Workshop is on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Dodgen Middle School with event sessions in the morning. In addition to classes about Science Olympiad events, we are also hosting a new coach class for teachers with 0-3 years Science Olympiad experience plus our annual Coach Roundtable session for new & experienced head coaches & their leadership teams.
We have many schools attending who are brand new to Science Olympiad and it would be great to offer more classes to help them get started (as well as helping us more experienced schools get our year off to a great start). If you are an experienced Science Olympiad coach, please let Kathy know if you or another coach from your school could teach an event class by September 5th so we can continue planning the workshop.
The format is similar to past years where instructors have 1½ hours to teach 1 coach and 2 students from each school the basics of the event including an overview of the rules, strategies, and a hands-on activity. Those who volunteer to teach a class have the option of teaching your event once or twice during the morning (preferably twice so we can accommodate more schools). The intent of this workshop is to jumpstart the teams to help them learn more and be better prepared for their competitions. Schools can attend without teaching an event as well.
We have instructors for the following events (with more event classes expected):
· Road Scholar
· Experimental Design
· Wright Stuff – Dave & Eileen Ziegler of Freedom Flight models
· New coach class (0-3 years experience)
· Coach Roundtable workshop (new & experienced lead coaches)
· 8:30-12:15 (Road Scholar)
· 8:45-10:15 – Session 1
· 10:30-12:00 – Session 2
